“My therapist says I have scars on my psyche.” – Harold

Giving new meaning to the term Cat Fight

If you assume that “She’s Mine” revolves around a bitter battle between Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Stephen (Max Beesley) over Donna (Sarah Rafferty), you are wrong. Instead, “She’s Mine” involves the struggle between Nigel (Adam Godley) and Louis (Rick Hoffman) over Nigel’s cat, Mikado who Louis has been cat sitting while Nigel was on vacation.

On paper, the cat custody story line in “She’s Mine” should have looked ridiculous and the idea scrapped. With all the tension over the Ava Hessington (Michelle Fairley) murder case, this is a sub plot that sounds better suited for an episode of Psych rather than Suits.

Lawyer Rachel Zane has a nice ring to it.

Nevertheless, not only does it work, it’s enjoyable to watch due in large part to the chemistry between Hoffman and Meghan Markle, who plays Rachel. They take an utterly ridiculous situation and make it feel somewhat plausible. Hoffman’s performance seems so genuine, you can’t help but feel for him rather than laugh at him. I was especially entertained when Louis calls Rachel, saying simply “Code Red” as music reminiscent of Mission Impossible plays in the background.

The pleasant thing about the mock trial for custody of Mikado is watching Rachel play  Louis’ lawyer. She nails it, even schooling both Louis and Nigel at times. Hopefully, Suits will last long enough for us to see Rachel become a real lawyer—well, a real lawyer on TV.

As Nigel’s line of questioning shifts from the cat to Louis’ treatment of the associates, I doubt I was the only one who became excited over the obviousness of what was to come.

Nigel: “I call Harold Gunderson (Max Topplin) to the stand.”

Louis to Rachel: “Holy shit, we’re in trouble.”

I miss Harold’s quirkiness. He always tried so hard to please Louis only to screw everything up. I am happy the writers found a way of bringing Harold back so he could seemingly exact his version of revenge on Louis. Could this be the first step of Harold and Louis mending things and Harold’s possible return?

A nice moment of Mike showing he cares.

Mike has always been portrayed as smart but one of the things missing from Suits for a while now has been Mike’s eidetic memory. The scene in Cameron Dennis’ (Gary Cole) office is the one I have wanted to see for quite a while. Mike needs only a second to do what he does best when he innocently knocks a file out of Dennis’ hands so he can surreptitiously look at its contents. Mike’s facial expression on his way out of Dennis’ office is priceless, and I hope the writers continue to find fun and creative ways to incorporate Mike’s photographic memory into the show.

Throughout this season, the Ava Hessington case has mirrored the internal events at Pearson Darby Specter, especially as it involves trusting the people you work with. The more Harvey, Mike, Jessica (Gina Torres), and Stephen are involved with Ava’s case, the more some at the firm relate the case to their own relationships. This is especially true with Harvey and Jessica. I really enjoy their rooftop scenes together because for some reason, they both seem to be more honest, and more importantly, they listen to each other.

In many ways, “She’s Mine” feels like the start of Suits returning to its roots. Harvey and Jessica seem to be on the same page again and with both of them now regretting the merger, I don’t see Darby (Conleth Hill) being around much longer. And with Stephen no longer a part of Donna’s life, she can once again focus her attention on Harvey. Louis finally gets what he wants, and with Rachel headed to law school in New York rather than out of state, she will still be around. All they need to do now is resolve this pesky Hessington murder case and everything will go back to being nice and calm. Somehow, I doubt it will be that easy.

I provide testosterone to the site. You won’t be reading about how nice a actress looks in a dress or how much of a hunk Matt Bomer is in my reviews. I describe colors using words like brown, not taupe. My twitter name is @staffaroadtrip because I love road trips and have done two different 48-state road trips since 2008. My favorite show is White Collar.
