During the SXSW premiere of 20th Century Fox’s new film Stuber, I spoke to screenwriter Tripper Clancy about finding a new twist to a theme that has been used in feature films and television previously. Listening to writers discuss their work and their process sounds very much like a parent raising a child. It’s quite amazing to witness their wide-eyed enthusiasm first hand.
The highlight of the night was my brief interview with actor Dave Bautista. I can’t imagine doing press for months having to answer similar questions repeatedly. Due to the limited time and cramped red carpet press line, talent was being shuffled inside leaving little opportunity. Nervously I watched as Bautista exchanged pleasantries with some people on the carpet and the time allocated for press quickly shrank. Instead of taking that opportunity to then head inside he returned to the press line to finish answering questions to the smaller outlets. While our interaction was brief, I gained a huge amount of respect for him. Who knows, perhaps he’ll agree to do a longer interview someday.
