Movie News: The Dark Knight Rises - Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard Roles Revealed...or are they?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard will join the cast of The Dark Knight Rises directed by Christopher Nolan, who also directed the two in Inception. It seems he likes working with a familiar crew. Tom Hardy, who played Eames in Inception, is also cast in The Dark Knight Rises – he plays Bane. I loved Hardy in Rock-n-Rolla (awesome movie btw!)

Gordon-Levitt will play a Gotham City cop who is given a special assignment by Commissioner Gordon despite the rumors he would take on the role of the villainous Albert Falcone aka Holiday, a serial killer who murdered criminals connected to his estranged father Carmine Falcone.

Could this be an elaborate ruse, Inception style, to throw everyone off the scent? I think Gordon-Levitt would do well as Falcone – he even bears some resemblance to the character. There’s also been speculation he might be the new Riddler. Playing a cop doesn’t seem to fit the bill but perhaps the cop character is more complex than we think. Didn’t Batman have a sidekick…Robin? Just saying.

Cotillard’s character, Miranda Tate, is a member of Wayne Enterprises Board of Directors who wants to help a still grieving Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale). Love interest for Bruce – I’m not sure. He’s still licking his wounds from the death of Rachel in The Dark Knight. (Sorry if I spoiled it for you but Dark Knight came out in 2008, if you haven’t seen it yet, what the heck are you waiting for?)

I wonder if she’ll have any interaction with the new Catwoman, Anne Hathaway? I’m curious to see the story line for our feline friend.

I’m looking forward to see what Nolan comes up with. He’s been known to give false leads on his characters, so I’m eager to find out who everyone will really be in the movie. He’s co-wrote and is producing the film as well as directing. The Dark Knight Rises is tentatively set to release July 20, 2012.
