TV News: USA’s Six-Hour Dramatic Series, “Political Animals,” Set to Air Summer 2012

With USA’s success with such series as White Collar, Burn Notice, Psych among others, the network has decided to change things up a bit this summer with Political Animals, a six-hour event drama series starring Sebastian Stan (Captain America, Gossip Girl), Sigourney Weaver (Avatar), Carla Gugino (Watchmen, Entourage), James Wolk (Happy Endings, Lonestar), and Brittany Ishibashi (Parenthood, Fairly Legal).

Pulling back the curtain on persuasive public speeches and stirring campaign ads, Political Animals is a fictional look at a former first family that exposes a dynasty weakened by political ambition, lust and greed.

In association with Warner Horizon Television, the mini-series comes from TV and film producers Greg Berlanti (Brothers & Sisters, Dirty Sexy Money), and Laurence Mark (Dreamgirls, Julie & Julia). Berlanti wrote and will direct the pilot and serves as executive producer of the series with Mark. Melissa Kellner Berman of Berlanti Productions will co-executive produce.

With the real presidential election on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, I’d say this is a rather well-timed political offering from USA, wouldn’t you? I’ll definitely be watching!
