TV: A HOT Evening with Hot in Cleveland (with video)

A HOT Evening with TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland at The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences

On a particularly warm evening in Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 30th, I had the fortunate privilege to attend the Hot In Cleveland panel at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) and let me just say it was fabulous. Thankfully, the Goldenson Theatre was air conditioned.

Seeing the cast up close was beyond thrilling. I mean, I may live in Los Angeles, but seeing stars is not wasted on me – I still get star struck and giddy when I see celebrities! One I was most anxious to see was of course the delightful Betty White. She is so freaking adorable up close and boy does she look fantastic for her 89 years! (Side note: I did not actually get to meet the cast, but I saw them pretty up close *giddy excitement*)

Panel was moderated by the legend himself, Larry King.

Panel included cast members:

VALERIE BERTINELLI – Melanie Moretti

JANE LEEVES – Joy Scroggs

WENDIE MALICK – Victoria Chase

BETTY WHITE – Elka Ostrovsky

CARL REINER – Max (Elka’s love interest)

JON LOVITZ (guest star)

COLLIN DANIEL (Casting Director)

BRETT GREENSTEIN (Casting Director)

SEAN HAYES (Executive Producer)

SUZANNE MARTIN (Executive Producer, Creator)

TODD MILLINER (Executive Producer)

When Betty White came on stage, everyone gave her a standing ovation! It was so sweet and she seemed very surprised and humbled. She insisted we stay standing through the introduction of the other cast members as well.

One of the highlights was seeing Sean Hayes. I absolutely LOVED him on Will & Grace and he promised that he will appear in an episode of Hot In Cleveland, but he’s just been busy with doing Broadway and being in New York puts a bit of a squash on guest starring when the show is filmed in a sound stage in Los Angeles.

Admittedly, I haven’t seen the show. However, after showing us clips from some of the episodes, I will be tuning in and/or setting my DVR because I could not stop laughing. These ladies are hilarious and I love that TV Land allows for a bit more artistic expression from the writers because some of the dialouge is laced heavily with sexual innuendos like Max telling Elka he’s willing to go “downtown.” (snicker)

Valerie, Jane, and Wendie all agree that Betty is getting way more action on the show than they are, which I find refreshing. A show highlighting women over 50 who are vivacious and sexy in their own rite is outstanding. I mean, who doesn’t love Betty White?

I have a good amount of video recorded. Although you can watch on the Emmys.com site, my video is more ‘live action’ since I was bobbing and weaving through the crowd to get a good shot. Haha.  Enjoy!
