Four Popular Web Series Return with New Seasons:

‘A Day in the Life,’ ‘Gear Guide,’ ‘Ghost Fit’ and ‘Host’s Hometown’

 

CHEVY CHASE, MD (April 30, 2014) – TravelChannel.com has greenlit production on nine new original web series and renewed four of their popular web series for 2014. Both the new and returning web series feature Travel Channel’s resident experts, in addition to new “in-the-know” guides, who will spotlight a diverse cross section of useful and fascinating information about people and places around the world. This announcement is being made in conjunction with parent company Scripps Networks Interactive’s NewFront event in New York City today.

Greenlit Productions of New Series (brief descriptions, in alphabetical order):

 

“All American Sideshow” is a full-access pass to the world’s strangest traveling sideshow. The web series goes behind the tent as the “World of Wonders Sideshow” kicks off the circus season with eye-catching headliners including sword-swallower Tommy, knife-thrower Spiff and “Diva of Danger” Sunshine. These daring performers share their unique take on travel while living in a tractor-trailer and entertaining the masses in towns across America. TravelChannel.com has greenlit seven webisodes, 3-4 minutes each.

“Fall Foliage” (wt) travels with host Teri Johnson to New York’s Finger Lakes region for some serious leaf-peeping while the fall foliage colors are at their peak, providing an awe-inspiring backdrop to experience the area’s best attractions. Johnson sails Lake Seneca, races around Watkins Glen International track and tours the Dr. Konstantin Frank vineyard – tasting Rkatsiteli wine, one of oldest grape varietals in the world. TravelChannel.com has greenlit 12 webisodes, 4-5 minutes each.

“Microbrew Madness” is hosted by four travel experts, each with a unique point-of-view: “Girls Gone Bayou” star Lori Griffis, Australian pro golfer Ewan Porter, and travel adventurers Olivia Speranza and Ryan Van Duzer. The web series takes viewers on a journey across America to discover the best craft breweries. The online fans will vote for their favorite brewery based on more than just the brews, but the whole craft brewery experience – pitting region against region, and brewery against brewery – to determine who brews the best in the country. TravelChannel.com has greenlit 16 webisodes, 4-6 minutes each.

“Next Travel Channel Star” is a four-round competition series judged by the experts at Travel Channel to find the next Network star. Participants include the individual, couple or group who can best share unique perspectives as they travel to destinations that are off-the-beaten-path. Travel Channel will throw some unexpected challenges at the contestants during their on-camera taping to demonstrate their hosting skills under pressure. Whether their expertise is in the culinary arts, hospitality, photography, family travel, adventure or another creative proficiency, the “Next Travel Channel Star” winner will showcase their unique talents when they host their own five-part series on the Network’s digital platforms.​

“Off Road Trippin’: Texas” is the end result of putting a truck driver and a model in a small rental car for a five-day journey through the Lone Star State. Come along for the ride as TravelChannel.com’s resident road warrior, BigCat Trucker, shows Marianela Pereyra, TravelChannel.com’s beach expert, some of his favorite Texas detours. Discover what lies in-between some of Texas’ most iconic cities. TravelChannel.com has greenlit five webisodes, 4-6 minutes each.

 

“The Perfect Shot” follows “Ghost Adventures” paranormal investigator Aaron Goodwin on his mission to learn the craft behind taking the perfect iconic shot. From the professional dSLR to the entry-level consumer camera to the ubiquitous smartphone, Goodwin uses different photography techniques, styles and a wide range of cameras to take viewers on a journey as they learn with him.TravelChannel.com has greenlit five webisodes, 4-5 minutes each.

“Top 10 Locals List” features adventure filmmaker Shane Reynolds as he provides insider tips on familiar destinations. From highlighting available activities on Crab Island (vs. hitting the beach) in Destin, Fla. to giving an insider’s tour of Frenchman Street (vs. Bourbon Street) in New Orleans, Reynolds teaches viewers how to enjoy these iconic locations like a local. TravelChannel.com has greenlit six webisodes, 6-8 minutes each.

“Travel Fact or Fiction” answers the pressing questions every seasoned traveler needs to know. Are the Queen’s Guards in London not allowed to smile? Are New York bagels really better because of the city’s water? TravelChannel.com’s “Travel 911” host Rob Pralgo debunks (or confirms) common travel myths. TravelChannel.com has greenlit 20 webisodes, 1-2 minutes each.

“Travel’s Best” is the companion video to the web site’s popular monthly travel lists. The web series includes “Travel’s Best: All-Inclusive Resorts,” “Travel’s Best: Honeymoons” and “Travel’s Best: Adventures.” TravelChannel.com has greenlit 12 webisodes, 2-3 minutes each.

“A Day in the Life,” now in its third season, has consistently ranked high with Travel Channel’s online audience, and has received critical acclaim after winning the CableFax “Best of the Web” Award in 2013. With participation from Travel Channel’s fan-favorite on-air hosts, the franchise is the most popular original series on TravelChannel.com. Each host approaches travel through his or her own unique perspective, giving each installment of “A Day in the Life” a distinctive filmmaking lens. TravelChannel.com will continue to roll out more webisodes throughout the year, 3-4 minutes each.

“Gear Guide” provides viewers with the perfect travel gadgets that they didn’t know they needed. The fourth season of the popular web series focuses on all the must-have gear for the summer traveler. From the poolside robot butler to the theft-proof wallet, host Rob Pralgo demonstrates the latest in high- and low-tech gizmos. TravelChannel.com has greenlit 14 new webisodes, 2-3 minutes each.

“Ghost Fit” follows “Ghost Adventurers”paranormal investigator Nick Groffas he trains to participate and win an extreme sports entertainment competition that puts athletic individuals through intensive and challenging obstacle courses. To achieve his goal, Groff has been training extensively on the road, at home and with outdoor adventures. In its second season, the web series follows Groff as he physically and mentally prepares for this life achievement. TravelChannel.com has greenlit five new webisodes, 2-3 minutes each.

Host’s Hometown,” in its second season, treats viewers to a guided tour of the hometowns of their favorite Travel Channel hosts.Each host will be featured in three webisodes that include their city overview, their favorite activities and their picks for food and beverage. This series of videos is a follow-up to the popular “A Day in the Life” franchise with more of a utility-travel spin. The next “Host’s Hometown” webisode will feature Todd Carmichael from “Dangerous Grounds.” TravelChannel.com will continue to roll out more webisodes throughout the year, 2-3 minutes each.
