“I ain’t who you think.” – Daryl Dixon

Who are these peeps and who is chasing them?

The Walking Dead (TWD) takes us on another trip down get-to-know-you lane with “Always Accountable.” Here we learn more about the current state of mind of one of our favorite characters. We also see how one lost soul leads another’s wandering mind back from the brink. These three survivors don’t have a lot in common other than their desire to survive.  What I’m most interested in is why no one seems to want to rebuild. I understand the need to stay alive at all costs but what are they living for if the world just goes to hell?

More Villains, More Problems

Just when you think you’ve come across the final group of nefarious assholes, there are more to be found. How Daryl (Norman Reedus) always ends up close and personal with these bad guys is a mystery to me. And he gets kidnapped too, like he’s the poster child for abductions. But you know what it proves … that Daryl isn’t a bad guy. Even when faced with the opportunity to show his true colors—the Daryl he used to be—he proves himself to be worthy. Why else does he return the insulin he inadvertently steals? Why else does he help the people who kidnapped him? Daryl is still in recruiting mode. He sees potential in these new survivors and wants to bring them back to the fold. Or … “Maybe I’m stupid too,” as Daryl says. No, I don’t think that’s it at all.

What Do You Think About…?

No time like the present for a smoke. Abraham is taking being “in control” a little too seriously.

Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) finally looks his issue in the face. I think his numerous conversations with Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) have hit home. He is either putting himself in imminent danger for kicks and giggles or to test his luck. Sasha is now “in control” and so is Abraham. It takes some doing but they both veer away from the edge and come back to the land of the living. Patience is a virtue in Abraham’s case. He figures this out by taking as step back from his current situation and not being stupid. It says a lot when Abraham realizes he’s going about things the wrong way. He is hell-bent on getting his hands on an RPG but after some time realizes his way isn’t going to work. And who put that little nugget in his head? Cudlitz does an amazing job in “Always Accountable.” He shows us a different side of Abraham, all while delivering his lines with panache. Who else can say “grade A butt-steak idiocy” with a straight face?

Sasha is wiser than she seems. The loss she’s experienced recently peppers her thoughts but no longer rule her.

Where’s the herd headed now? The leaders of the zombie parade have finished their mission and are on their own separate journeys. So, who’s to say the walkers won’t wander back toward Alexandria? What will keep them on the road to wherever?

Would it be presumptuous to assume Daryl takes the little carving from “D” (Austin Amelio) for Judith? Why else would he want it? Daryl is always thinking about that baby. You can’t tell me he’s not a bad ass with a heart.

Memorable and funny lines

Not sure how to handle seeing Daryl without his weapon of choice.

Abraham to Sasha on why he wanted to take out those random walkers: “’Cause loose ends make my ass itch.”

**

Sasha: “Stand watch or sleep?”

Abraham: “The former, straight through the night. We’ll reassess in the morning.”

Sasha: “What do you mean?”

Abraham: “The hell we’re doing here.”

Now I tend to lean toward thinking outside the box. I believe Abraham isn’t just referring to why they are in the insurance office but why they are where they are in life. Why has the world gone to shit? Why is everyone infected with something that makes them reanimate once they’ve died?

**

Abraham: “I like the way you call bullshit, Sasha. I believe I’d like to get to know you a whole lot better.”

Well, well … I did not see that coming. New romance is in the air. What will Rosita (Christian Serratos) have to say about this?

**

Daryl: “Ain’t nobody safe anymore; can’t promise people that anyhow.”

**

Overall

The Walking Dead comes back from last week’s super sucky episode “Now” with a better filler episode in “Always Accountable.” These words from Sasha are everything. How screwed up have things become because people aren’t held accountable for their actions? These new survivors will learn a lesson they haven’t had to yet. Nobody takes Daryl’s crossbow and gets away with it.
