Dead Bodies and…What? No Cliffhanger? Review: Justified, Season 4 Finale “Ghosts”

Dead Bodies and...What? No Cliffhanger? Review: Justified, Season 4 Finale "Ghosts" 1

What happened to epic season finales? Especially for a show as ingrained with gun slingin’ and outlawin’ as Justified. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. “Ghosts” doesn’t leave us with much of a cliffhanger, and we don’t we see any ghosts, either.

Pulled Pork and the Hooker with a Heart of Gold. Retrospective: Justified – “Peace of Mind”

Pulled Pork and the Hooker with a Heart of Gold. Retrospective: Justified - "Peace of Mind" 2

“Peace of Mind” really captivated me. From unexpected revelations—like someone leaking information—to a stunning ending, this episode will surely widen some eyes. After learning the sex of his unborn child, you would think it would make becoming a daddy more real for Raylan; quite the contrary.

The Battle of Bloody Porch? Review: Justified – “Decoy”

The Battle of Bloody Porch? Review: Justified - "Decoy" 3

Well, now that Drew Thompson, aka Shelby, is in Marshal custody, it’s an all out war between the Marshals and Theo Tonin’s men, with Boyd in tow. Although Theo is absent, his guys are brazen in thinking they are going to get into a stand-off with U.S. Marshals over a fugitive who’s been on the Feds most wanted list for over 30 years.

Underwear and Badasses. Just Another Day in Harlan. Review: Justified – “Get Drew”

Underwear and Badasses. Just Another Day in Harlan. Review: Justified - "Get Drew" 4

Mystery solved. Drew Thompson is Sheriff Shelby Parlow, but it’s a race to see who can find him now that he’s on the lam with Ellen May in tow. The unexpected surprise of “Get Drew” is seeing our old pig-slaughtering friend Limehouse. And Boyd trusting Colton again will come back to not just bite, but rip off, a piece of his backside.

Guns, Lies, and The Real Drew Thompson. Review: Justified – “The Hatchet Tour”

Guns, Lies, and The Real Drew Thompson. Review: Justified - "The Hatchet Tour" 5

Drew Thompson’s identity is revealed. That alone is the saving grace of “The Hatchet Tour.” While there are some key moments that stand out, like Constable Bob (Patton Oswalt) gunning it out with Lee Paxton and Gerald Johns, nothing can overshadow the revelation of the true identity of the infamous Drew Thompson.

Lobster Box? And Harlan Gets a Dairy Queen? Retrospective: Justified – “Outlaw”

Lobster Box? And Harlan Gets a Dairy Queen? Retrospective: Justified - "Outlaw" 6

“Outlaw” turns in a superb episode giving us blood, mayhem, a bit of gloating, and some more blood for good measure. If you are a tad squeamish, you may want to cover your eyes during a few scenes.

Let Me Hear Your Body Talk! Review: Justified – “Money Trap”

Let Me Hear Your Body Talk! Review: Justified – “Money Trap” 7

Body language speaks volumes. “Money Trap” will get you hot under the collar. As Raylan deals with an escape convict, Jody, who’s holding a grudge against him, Boyd and Ava get themselves all gussied up to attend former Sheriff Napier’s swingers party.

Playing Footsie with a Blow Torch? Ouch! Review: Justified “Foot Chase”

Playing Footsie with a Blow Torch? Ouch! Review: Justified "Foot Chase" 8

If puns were a dime a dozen, “Foot Chase” would have nearly a dollar or so by the end of it. The humor infused into this episode is not overstated and is placed just so, as to not take away from the point. “Foot Chase” impresses with its sarcastic humor, unapologetic brutality, and entertains with a pinch of “sweet underage love” to make things weirder.

Can You Whistle The Theme Song to “Deliverance” Too? Review: Justified – “Kin”

Can You Whistle The Theme Song to "Deliverance" Too? Review: Justified - "Kin" 9

The hunt for Drew Thompson goes deep into the country where we find there’s kin where you’d least expect it—and rifles.

Just What Will Raylan Do With Those Chickens? Review: Justified “This Bird Has Flown”

Just What Will Raylan Do With Those Chickens? Review: Justified "This Bird Has Flown" 10

“This Bird Has Flown” is enjoyable, but not the best Justified has to offer. I’m waiting for the time Raylan will draw on someone and shoot them down like he used to. What happened to the modern-day gunslinger? I’d like him back about now.

Review: Justified, S4 “Where’s Waldo?” (U.S. Marshals stands for “perverts” in Harlan)

Review: Justified, S4 "Where's Waldo?" (U.S. Marshals stands for "perverts" in Harlan) 11

If you thought living in a small southern town was boring, you ain’t been to Harlan, KY yet. It’s a veritable cornucopia of sex, drugs, booze, and danger. Will Preacher Billy (Joe Mazello) be the town’s salvation or will he be another obstacle in the way of Boyd’s (Walton Goggins) grand vision for Harlan?

Review: Justified – S3 Finale “Slaughterhouse” (Sometimes blood isn’t thicker) #JustifiedFX

Review: Justified - S3 Finale "Slaughterhouse" (Sometimes blood isn't thicker) #JustifiedFX 12

It’s a chaotic night as paramedics and fire trucks surround the scene outside of Boyd’s (Walton Goggins) bar where Duffy (Jere Burns) blew up the car Quarles (Neal McDonough) was driving. There are many moments of exciting tension throughout “Slaughterhouse,” but something is missing. And we finally get to see Limehouse’s “piggy bank.”

Review: #JustifiedFX “Coalition” (A whole lot of double-crossing and way too much naked Quarles)

Review: #JustifiedFX "Coalition" (A whole lot of double-crossing and way too much naked Quarles) 13

Co-a-li-tion [koh-uh-lish-uhn] – noun. 1. A combination or alliance, especially a temporary one between persons, factions, states, etc.
If you were hoping for a stupendous coalition to ignite the slow simmering war, well you’re shit out of luck. After eagerly anticipating a climatic penultimate episode prior to the season finale, I am disappointed. All we get are too many people double crossing one another with a whole lot of stupidity running rampant.

Review: #JustifiedFX “Measures” (Not measuring up…but getting there)

Review: #JustifiedFX "Measures" (Not measuring up...but getting there) 14

While there are definitely some exciting moments that will become pivotal in the penultimate episode, overall, I am slightly disappointed in “Measures.” With only one episode left before the season finale, I hope the writers have something phenomenal in store for us. I think Duffy (Jere Burns) reaching out to Tonin to take over when Quarles is eliminated makes for an interesting twist; however, the other kink in the chain is actually getting to Quarles now that Boyd has him tied up, literally.

Review: #JustifiedFX "Loose Ends" ("There's a war coming..." I wish it would hurry because I'm getting antsy!) 15

“There’s a war coming; you really wanna see Noble’s become a battleground?” ~ Raylan For a moment, I think of Game of Thrones.. But we are nowhere near Winterfell. I won’t lie and say I didn’t enjoy the episode however; I will be honest and say it left me wanting. It’s episode nine for Pete’s sake and I’m ready for the Quarles-Crowder-Givens-Limehouse battle to commence!

Review: #JustifiedFX “Watching The Detectives” (“ice-cold, remorseless, bottle blonde, sh*t bag killer”)

Review: #JustifiedFX "Watching The Detectives" ("ice-cold, remorseless, bottle blonde, sh*t bag killer") 16

Raylan – a dirty cop? Who would believe such a thing? Apparently Winona is having some doubts. Limehouse wants to “back the winning side” meaning he’s in Quarles’ corner – things are really taking an interesting turn. And Duffy wants to break Raylan over a step ladder and ride him like a teaser pony! I never expected those words to fall from his lips.

Review: #JustifedFX "The Man Behind The Curtain" (We ain't in Kansas, Dorothy and the Wizard sends a Weasel) 17

What I enjoy most about “The Man Behind The Curtain” is we don’t really get to see the real man behind the curtain. We meet Sammy, the son of the man who calls the shots from Detroit who, in turn, controls Quarles. We also get a glimpse of how Quarles is treated while in Detroit yet, he’s the “swinging dick” (so to speak) in Harlan because he’s the city-slicker in the fancy suits. I love the multifaceted puzzle we are presented with: Arlo calling after his “late wife” up in Noble’s Hollar; Boyd banking with Limehouse for firsthand information; Raylan sleeping in a rented room above a local dive bar (what the…); and Quarles taking orders from his weasel step-brother.

Review: #JustifiedFX “Thick As Mud” (The Misadventures of Dewey Crow…to be or not to be…without kidneys?)

Review: #JustifiedFX "Thick As Mud" (The Misadventures of Dewey Crow...to be or not to be...without kidneys?) 18

As I suspected, Dewey (Damon Herriman) is lying in a bathtub, sans the ice. Poor thing, it appears both kidneys have been removed by Lance (Clayne Crawford) or “Lawrence Nightingale” as Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) calls him, leaving Dewey up the proverbial Shit’s Creek without a boat or a paddle. But, don’t believe everything you see.

Advance Review: #Justified “The Gunfighter” (Revenge, New Players, and the Pee-Pee Dance?)

Advance Review: #Justified "The Gunfighter" (Revenge, New Players, and the Pee-Pee Dance?) 19

After being shot, Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) is definitely off his game. With Boyd (Walton Goggins) finally within reach of getting his revenge on Dickie (Jeremy Davies) for shooting his beloved Ava (Joelle Carter); the new player Robert Quarles (Neal McDonough) shaking up the Dixie Mafia like he’s churning butter; and Ava showing some serious gumption in Boyd’s stead, it’s getting down and dirty in Harlan.

Review: Justified, Season 1, Ep 12 “Reckoning”

Review: Justified, Season 1, Ep 12 "Reckoning" 20

Raylan is hellbent on finding out who the trigger man was; he’s pretty sure it’s Dickie (Jeremy Davies). But he can’t prove it. And Dickie isn’t a fool. He planted his accomplice Jed’s (Richard Speight, Jr.) blood at the crime scene just in case. What Raylan doesn’t know yet is why Dickie was at Arlo’s in the first place.
