Mr. Ahmed is hiding something
Since the last episode of The Killing, “Vengeance,” I have been wondering what the FBI is doing in town. Terrorists. Sheesh. Just one more new piece of evidence thrown into the ring. At this rate, I’ll never figure out who the murderer is! I’m fine with waiting, but can the writers throw us a bone here? The search for Rosie’s (Katie Findlay) killer goes deeper and deeper each day, and it’s only been a week. I don’t think Linden (Mirielle Enos) will be going to California any time soon. She may as well tell her fiancé she’s not moving and have him come back to Seattle. If it’s obvious to me she’s not going anywhere, I’m pretty sure it’s obvious to him. Heck, I think everyone knows she won’t get married, at least not this season.
I like the way The Killing delves into the lives of the victim’s family. We experience their emotional turmoil in dealing with the loss of a loved one. The Larsen family is falling apart. Not only is Stan (Brent Sexton) stressed beyond his limits, Mitch (Michelle Forbes) seems like a basket case. She is so wrapped up in her grief she ignores what else is going on in the world. She seems to be floating along, barely keeping her head above water. Not only is she ignoring her husband and children, she’s not taking care of herself either. I’m worried about her well-being and that of the entire Larsen clan.
He says he's sober, but is he really?
And now Linden is having doubts about Holder’s (Joel Kinnaman) integrity. I can’t say I blame her. We see him in compromising situations just about every week and he’s always been a shady character. I want to believe he’s a good guy but he’s not making a good case for himself by being so secretive. That changes a bit this week because Linden does her detective thing and follows him. How do you feel about Holder after learning more about his demons? Do you trust him? Should Linden trust him? If they are going to solve this case, she has to. But then again, he needs to be more open with her. Communication, people!
“He’s still living his life. He’s happy. It’s not right.” I’m wondering if Mitch doesn’t have a point there. Not so much regarding her feelings about Bennet Ahmed (Brandon Jay McLaren), but her ability to live her life. She needs closure. I’m sure the entire family does, but I think she does most of all. I mean, she left her kids in the garage, car engine running, with the garage door closed. I understand getting distracted, but if Terry (Jamie Anne Allman) hadn’t come in when she did, Mitch and Stan would be completely childless. Something has to give. I’m not sure how much more the Larsens can take at this point.
Councilman Richmond is going down a dark road
I’m finally beginning to see Councilman Richmond’s (Billy Campbell) role in The Killing. He is where the Larsens will be once they find out who murdered Rosie. He’s dealing with his knowledge of the woman who killed his wife, seeing her put in prison and potentially being let out on parole. He’s not coping well with the situation and we are watching him juggle so many things. He’s the parallel to the Mitch. He doesn’t have children, but his campaign equates to that. He’s angry about a lot of things but he only shows it in relation to his wife’s killer. I don’t think he’ll do anything stupid and go after the woman, but who knows.
Once again, another fabulous episode. I don’t expect anything less than excellence from The Killing. Confusion? Yes, but it comes with the territory. If the writers spelled out the plot, the show wouldn’t be worth watching. I’m still enjoying this hour of television and find that it’s a thrill ride the further along we go.
