Prime suspect or man in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Ooh, Bennet Ahmed (Brandon Jay McLaren) is in trouble. And here I had him in the all clear, but he’s tangled up in something serious. Just not what we think it is. Talking about passports arriving soon and the fact that it’s the only thing he says in English strikes me as odd. Why have an entire telephone conversation in a foreign language but say the most incriminating thing in a language everyone can understand? Either he’s stupid or not thinking clearly. Is he planning to leave or planning to help his friend, Muhammad (Jarod Joseph) go somewhere? The answer may be shocking but not as bad as is let on. I truly want to believe Mr. Ahmed is innocent, but he looks guiltier with each episode that airs.
As an aside, the shot of Mr. Ahmed in class with the word “Killer” written on the whiteboard behind him is foreboding. I had a bad feeling about him going back to school so soon, but I was not expecting that. The tension in the room, as the students sit in complete silence looking at him, is palpable. I am hoping his students still have faith in him, but, man, if they don’t surprise me! If he’s innocent, he’s going to have a difficult time acclimating himself back into society.
Mitch is willing to find the killer if no one else will
Holder’s (Joel Kinnaman) tight with a judge? When did this happen? See, every week there’s something new we learn about these characters that makes you go “hmm….” It’s an aspect of the writing which keeps the show fresh and interesting, and makes you wonder what else lurks in the shadows of these characters’ lives.
You know, I have a feeling there is something up with Terry (Jamie Anne Allman). I’m a helpful person myself, but she goes out of her way to do things for Stan (Brent Sexton) and Mitch (Michelle Forbes). She babysits, cooks, cleans, volunteers to do whatever needs to be done. I don’t want to be suspicious of her, but what do we really know about this sister of Mitch’s? Not much at all. Oh, and do you notice how she sort of resembles Rosie (Katie Findlay)? Coincidence or something else?
Linden (Mirielle Enos) is smart, but she shouldn’t make promises she can’t keep. Telling Mitch everything would be dealt with, then not coming through, makes her look bad. No good cop does that. Not only that, it sets the ball in motion for the Larsens to take matters into their own hands. And it’s been pointed out to us that Stan has a sordid past we know very little about.
Richmond should throw in the towel before it gets worse
I am now officially bored with Councilman Richmond’s (Billy Campbell) role in this story. It all seems a bit pointless, aside from his being able to relate to the Larsens’ loss. I don’t care if he’s elected Mayor, I don’t care that he’s having an affair with his campaign adviser, Gwen (Kristin Lehman), and I certainly don’t care that he’s a mudslinging politician. Seriously, is there no other reason for the constant barrage of his failing campaign than the off chance he might win? Do you care at this point?
“Undertow” reveals a lot about the main characters this week. I’m curious to find out what the consequences of their actions will be. Stan has blood on his hands—literally.
