Movie Corner: Advance Review – Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Can you smell the salty air as your hair whips in the wind while sailing across the ocean blue? Can you taste the rejuvenating waters of the Fountain of Youth? Captain Jack is back! With more supernatural elements, including the enchanted sword of Blackbeard and the mythical mermaids, POTC4 is thoroughly entertaining.

Review: United States of Tara, Season 3, Ep 308 “Chicken ‘n’ Corn”

“Chicken ‘n’ Corn” sounds delicious, but it’s not that kind of chicken. While at a local fair in a corn field, one of the scarecrows jumps out towards Tara (Toni Collette), startling her so badly she transitions into Chicken, her childlike alter. Without the guidance of Dr. Hattaras (guest star Eddie Izzard), it seems Tara is beginning to transition more frequently. Or could it be something else causing her alters to stir?

Recap/Review: The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Season 3, Episode 1 – “In the Name of the Father”

Finally, we’re done with the drama known as Danielle Staub! I had gotten to the point last year when I seriously considered giving up RHONJ. From the looks of the season opener, though, there will be plenty of drama this year with the addition of Kathy Wakile and Melissa Gorga, both of whom are related to Teresa Giudice.

The Karate Kid Goes Home: Recap/Review, “Dancing with the Stars – The Results Show,” Week 9 Semi-Finals

So here we have it dance fans. Ralph Macchio, aka “The Karate Kid,” is going home. Although I predicted it in yesterday’s Recap/Review, I have to say I’m a little disappointed. I loved watching Ralph grow into a wonderful dancer this season. No matter what happened, he’s still a winner in my book. For a recap of the evening’s events, including the first hour of the show, read on.

Review: The Borgias, Season 1, Ep 108 “The Art of War”

Giulia and Lucrezia are captured by the French army and held captive; The College of Cardinals abandon the Pope as they flee Rome; Juan’s military prowess is lacking; Cesare continues to chase after Ursula.

ABC Unveils an Ambitious New Line-Up for its 2011-12 Season

It looks to me like ABC is totally revamping its schedule for next year with the addition of 13 new shows and the cancellation of six. Joining the already-renewed Body of Proof and Happy Endings are the new dramas Charlie’s Angels, Good Christian Belles (formerly known as “Good Christian Bitches”), Pan Am, Revenge, Once Upon A Time, Scandal, Missing, and The River. New comedies include Work It, Man Up, Apartment 23, Last Man Standing and Suburgatory.

Fox Announces An Interesting Slate for 2011-12

Since I previously expressed my displeasure with the cancellations of some of my favorite Fox shows, it is only right that I now tell you what I think about Fox’s announcement of its 2011-12 television season that was unveiled today by Peter Rice, Chairman, Entertainment, Fox Networks Group, and Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

Recap/Review: “Dancing with the Stars,” Week 9 Semi-Finals

Week 9 is a critical week; it’s the semi-finals. During rehearsal this week, Hines’ partner Kym suffered a serious injury and was carried away on a stretcher, but since she’s here, I’m taking that as a good sign. This week, everyone has three dances to do – two individual dances and a Winner-Takes-All Cha Cha.

Review – Nurse Jackie, Season 3, Episode 8, “The Astonishing”

“What is the worst that can happen?” Such a telling statement from Jackie (Edie Falco) to calm Grace’s (Ruby Jerins) fears as she puts the finishing touches on Grace’s costume for the Saints Pageant at school. With Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) watching and beaming with pride, Fiona (Mackenzie Aladjem) feeds Grace her lines so she can practice—the very picture of domesticity. Except we all know that’s not exactly the truth.

Review – The Killing, Season 1, Episode 8, “Stonewalled”

Air Date: Sunday, May 15, 2011, 10 pm ET/PT Since the last episode of The Killing, “Vengeance,” I have been wondering what the FBI is doing in town. Terrorists. Sheesh. Just one more new piece of evidence thrown into the ring. At this rate, I’ll never figure out who the murderer is! I’m fine with …

Book Review: “The Fiery Cross” by Diana Gabaldon

I wasn’t sure what we would get with this fifth installment of the “Outlander” series, but I know one thing: I do not wish for anyone to be Roger MacKenzie. He gets his ass handed to him in this book, repeatedly.

Review: Bones, Season 6, Ep 22 “The Hole in the Heart”

*WARNING: If you haven’t seen this episode, this review contains spoilers.* My heart is shattered. This is one of the most riveting and powerful episodes I can recall in a long while. I don’t think I’ve ever cried as much watching an episode of Bones as I did watching “The Hole in the Heart.” Sure, I’ve been teary eyed before but this was full-on waterworks, including the lip quiver. The writers have ripped a hole in my heart.

Review – The Vampire Diaries, Season 2, Episode 22, “As I Lay Dying”

Next season is going to be a scorcher. Klaus has ignited the fire and it’s on a slow burn now. By the next time we see this motley crew again, it’ll be an uncontrollable blaze.

Lifetime Releases Aggressive New Line-Up for the 2011-12 Season

It looks like the Lifetime Network wants to play with the big boys with its new programming slate for the upcoming 2011-12 season. Since I’m a fan of the network’s original series, “Army Wives” and “Drop Dead Diva,” both of which have been renewed, as well as reality shows, “Project Runway” and “Coming Home,” I couldn’t be happier.

Review – Glee, Season 2, Episode 20 – “Prom Queen”

Prom is a milestone in everyone’s life, whether you’re an outsider like most of the kids in New Directions, or typical Prom King and Queen material like Finn (Cory Monteith) and Quinn (Diana Agron). With New Directions performing at Prom, “Prom Queen” could have been simply an awesome opportunity for singing and dancing, but like other memorable episodes of Glee, this episode was much more than just about the singing.

Review – Raising Hope, Season 1, Episode 21 – “Baby Monitor”

I think it’s human nature to be curious about other people. When the Chances learn they have new neighbors, they resort to eavesdropping through Hope’s baby monitor. It’s not exactly planned. You see, they discover they can do this by accident, which just makes it easier to say, “Hey, I didn’t know I could do …

Giant Upheaval At Fox – What Will They Cancel Next?

I am in a state of disbelief. Not only has Fox cancelled “The Chicago Code,” “Human Target,” “Breaking In” and “Lie to Me,” they’ve also cancelled one of my favorite comedies, “Traffic Light.” It’s been quite a bloodbath over at the Fox Network tonight.

Romeo Sent Home – Recap of “Dancing with the Stars-The Results Show,” Week 8

As we all know by now, Romeo was sent home this week. I’m sad to see him go, as I think he brought a lot to the show. I thought Kirstie would be the one leaving, as I predicted in my Recap/Review of last night’s “Dancing with the Stars.” But I guess the voters didn’t see it my way. For a recap of tonight’s show, please continue reading.

Review: United States of Tara, S3, Ep 307 “The Electrifying & Magnanimous Return of Beaverlamp”

Dr. Hattaras’ (guest star Eddie Izzard) theory about D.I.D., among other psychological disorders, comes into scrutiny when a former patient, who thought he was a kite, takes a running leap off a building. Tara’s dark new alter is becoming more intrusive and hazardous to her health. Max pulled his old band Beaverlamp back together for a big birthday bash performance, complete with eyeliner.

Review: The Borgias, Season 1, Ep 107 “Death On A Pale Horse”

I find it odd and darkly humorous that the Pope wishes to go to confessional boasting of Friar Raphael (Edward Petherbridge), who was able to make him feel “clean.” I don’t think an ocean could cleanse this Pope of his filthy sins. It’s one of the scintillating things I love about this show. Irons portrays the most cunning and ruthless religious figure I’ve ever seen. His subtle nuances – the haunting pitch of his voice, his mannerisms, and his facial expressions – are frightfully convincing. It gives me chills sometimes as I watch him.

Macchio Injured, Affecting His Dance. Recap/Review – “Dancing with the Stars” Week 8

Instant dances are back this week so the stars have to be at the top of their game. Not only do they have to do a regular dance, in spite of knowing the style of dance for their second routine ahead of time, they have to choreograph the dance at the drop of a hat when they pick their music tonight. Should be fun, no?

Review – Nurse Jackie, Season 3, Episode 7 – “Orchids and Salami”

One of the character traits I love so much about Jackie is her unfailing devotion to her kids and the ease with which she handles their problems. Watching her calm Grace’s fears about choosing the wrong saint for the Saint Pageant at school is a beautiful thing. I also love that Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) recognizes Jackie for what she’s worth.

Well, I don’t have to wait much longer to watch their newest escapades. Keeping Up with the Kardashians returns for its sixth season on June 12th at 10:00 pm ET/PT on E!
