Tomorrow People (featured)Season 1, Episode 16

Air Date: Wednesday, March 17, 2014, 9/8c on The CW

RATING:

“Uh, you want us to play superhero?” – Stephen

The aptly titled “Superhero” takes The Tomorrow People to the next level. Breakouts are taking the high ground and protecting humans, which is a big no-no. I didn’t think I’d see the day, considering Tomorrow People (TP) need to stay hidden. What a risk they take to do the right thing. If only more of them thought that way.

To The Rescue!

Maybe Hillary isn't such a bad partner for Stephen.

Family takes the back seat this week as we venture into another aspect of the superhuman life. TP are supposed to keep what they can do a secret. So why is there a loose cannon outing herself for the sake of saving others? The “Red Avenger” makes rescuing those in need a bit too comical, wearing a mask and all. Not a move I was expecting the writers to take but the turn of events could be interesting. It’s a side of the TP we don’t often get to see, except during a flashback. Have you noticed the TP only expose themselves upon first discovering their abilities? They risk their necks to save people, not knowing they’re different in a way that could be dangerous. I like the exploration of the right and wrong in helping others. It’s right to use your power to help those in need, yet wrong to expose yourself to danger.

Papa Doc

Jedikiah’s (Mark Pellegrino) one weakness is directly linked to his emotions. No wonder he keeps himself so under wraps. Pellegrino’s character is the most complex because of his straddling the lines of two worlds. Having a sibling that’s a TP, being in love with one, and having to track rogue TP for a living has to take a toll on the man. I don’t begrudge Jedikiah his relationship with Morgan (Carly Pope) but I do think he’s being quite hypocritical. And now that he’s learned Morgan’s secret, what will he do? I’m enjoying Jedikiah’s story arc. He’s gone from being a hard ass to being a hard ass with a heart. Pellegrino doesn’t slack in his portrayal of the misunderstood sleaze ball. Yup, that sounds about right. I’d like to think Jedikiah will do the right thing but he always surprises me. Let’s hope he doesn’t disappoint. I’d like to see how he handles Morgan and the potential disaster her existence will mean for him and Ultra.

Random Thoughts:

I seriously hate Russell's hair.

I seriously hate Russell’s hair.

There is more to Hillary (guest star Alexa Vega) than meets the eye. Her hard exterior is a ruse. She’s still a tough cookie but one with a soft, gooey center. I just may grow to like her.

Cara (Peyton List) has taken her role as leader to heart. I get that she wants to keep her people safe but she’s missing the big picture. Why are the TP hiding underground anyway? Shouldn’t they be top side living? Superheroes they are not.

Russell (Aaron Yoo) with a bob—no, thanks. I understand the need to change up Russell’s look to make him appear younger, flashier, and different but the wig business is better left alone.

Funny exchange:

Stephen: “You been here before?”

Russell: “Two thousan miles between Korea and Vietnam.”

Stephen: “I just mean you look like you know your way around.”

Way to put your foot in your mouth, Stephen.

**

I am a bit underwhelmed by “Superhero,” and the courtroom scene is beyond unbelievable. I’m still on the fence about the future of The Tomorrow People. Maybe the originality of the show is wearing off for me. Either way, I keep expecting to more but end up with mediocre acting, action scenes, and dialogue.
