Does he really want to win or has he given up hope?

What I love most about each episode of The Killing is the writing. There is so much mystery and intrigue surrounding this case I don’t know which way is up. The number of suspects continues to climb and the corruption in the judicial and political systems is mindboggling. The actors are a part of the mystery as well. We don’t know what’s going to happen until it happens. They give nothing away in a scene; no speech or facial expression clues us in to what is in store because they can be a façade. It’s part of my theory about the rain. Some days it rains harder and longer than others because the water blurs the picture, hiding clues from us we would otherwise see on a clear day. The writers are good and know just what they’re doing. We are closer to finding a killer, so keep your eyes open.

Observations and thoughts:

Honestly, I didn’t think Stan (Brent Saxton) would let Terry (Jamie Ann Allman) back into the house. There’s so much drama there, I don’t know where to start. Stan knows Terry may have had some part to play in Rosie’s (Katie Findlay) becoming involved with Beau Soleil. So why has he forgiven her and taken her back in? Does he realize he can’t raise the boys alone? He needs someone else there since Mitch (Michelle Forbes) is playing runaway mom. This may be the beginning of confusing times for the Larsen family.

Could one of them be a killer?

“It was just a kiss.” Damn, is Gwen’s dad (Alan Dale) cold or what? Should it matter she was drunk? And at 14, why was she allowed to drink champagne at an adult soiree anyway? The entire situation doesn’t sit well with me and I can’t understand how a father would be ok with a much older associate kissing his underage daughter—no matter the circumstance. There is something seriously wrong with this daddy/daughter relationship and it draws an interesting parallel to Rosie and Stan’s relationship. It makes me want to vomit when I think about how Senator Eaton considers his daughter collateral damage. Stan would be ready to commit murder if anyone hurt his daughter. So what does that say about the two men?

How predictable… the mysterious keycard Linden (Mirielle Enos) got knocked over the head for belongs to someone in Councilman Richmond’s (Billy Campbell) office.  (I’m expecting a twist to reveal it was planted to screw up Richmond’s campaign.) I was really hoping it belonged to the creeptastic Mayor Adams (Tom Butler). I really want him to go down for this because he is as crooked a politician as they come. But I can’t say I’m surprised. Although, we know the keycard doesn’t belong to Richmond, I can’t figure out why anyone else would have met with Chief Jackson (Claudia Ferri) at the Wapi Eagle casino. That woman is psychotic and you’d have to be hard as nails to even talk to her for a few minutes. With Richmond all in the clear, that leaves Jamie (Eric Ladin) and Gwen. We know what they are both capable of and what they would do for Richmond.

Lt. Erik Carlson (Mark Moses) is dirtier than Holder (Joel Kinnaman), and that’s saying something. I was beginning to think Carlson was turning things around and trying to do right by Linden but he surprises me yet again. His flip-flopping won’t bode well for Linden, though. “I thought they’d taken away your badge detective?” Me too, Chief Jackson. Linden has been fired and is still working hard on this case. She’s like a dog with a bone and isn’t going to be stopped that easily.

The Larsens are starting to get back to normal. Something's going to ruin it. I just know it.

If I could vote for Councilman Richmond, I would. He’s beyond brave. I don’t think I can figure out the word for what he is because courageous doesn’t express how I feel, but the man is definitely not one to run from his fears. He faces them head on and takes the bull by the horns. Now whether this is smart or not, I can’t say—he kind of commits political suicide—but I’d like to think voters will look at Richmond’s entire career before making a final decision about him. What would you have done in his position? Keep quiet about attempting suicide or allowed that tidbit to be put out there by your rival? It’s a tough choice to make and I hope Richmond made the right one.

Memorable lines:

Senator Eaton: “What happened to you?”

Gwen: “Nothing happened to me, Dad. I just learned from the best.”

**

Another solid episode of The Killing where we learn a few new things and get a surprise ending. I must say, all the intrigue is bogging me down and I’m getting a headache right about now. I’m ready to know who the killer is and why they killed Rosie. I’m ready to find out what the mayor has to do with this case if anything, and I want Linden to get her mind right. She’s completely out of control and the fact that she’s without her son and fiancé speaks volumes. Let’s see these people get their lives back together because enough is enough.
