FAE-natics, the wait is over! Lost Girl is back and it’s sexy as ever. But there is so much more than that going on in the eagerly anticipated season four premiere, “In Memoriam.” If you are familiar with the show, you know this is an acquired series that Syfy brought to the US from Canada. Season four has already been airing on Showcase in Canada so we Americans are just now catching up.

“In Memoriam” starts off a bit disconcerting. Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) is now Fae? After being human her entire life, how in the world does she possess Fae powers? Although, being able to shoot sparkles from your hands doesn’t seem that glamorous. That’s not the only thing that’s afoot; the absence of a key player, the beautiful and seductive Succubus Bo (Anna Silk), is profoundly obvious. She’s missing but no one realizes it because something has happened to their memories. With only glimpses of Bo in latent memories, visions, and photographs, everyone from Kenzi to Dyson (Kris Holden Reid), Hale (KC Collins), and even Bo’s mother Aife (Inga Cadranel), is feeling something is very wrong.

Meanwhile, “Una Mens,” the Fae council, is in town to set the balance. As Trick (Rick Howland) starts and Kenzi finishes, “The Una Mens are a near omniscient council of Fae authority whose sole purpose is to ensure the old laws are followed.” There is a naughty Fae running around removing memories—more specifically, memories of Bo.

Engelram is very disappointed with Kenzi's wish...but will "swallowing her whole" solve the problem?

Oh how I’ve missed the sarcastic and sneaky Kenzi. Season three ended in April 2013 but the wait for season four felt like it’s been so much longer. Kenzi is a scene stealer with her sharp wit and snarky comments, thanks to Solo’s brilliant acting. But Solo’s beauty takes center stage when Kenzi dresses up for a premiere party held by Engelram (guest star George Takei), a very unique Fae known as an Amphisbaena. Engelram is a “humble gatherer of Fae memorbillia,” but we know he has ulterior motives. Takei owns this scene and I love when Engelram gives Kenzi beauty tips. Their scene together is quite entertaining. I think Takei enjoyed over enunciating the letter ‘S’ in his dialogue…he is a snake-like Fae after all.

Lost Girl is such a fun show but there is also depth. Many people talk about the show’s boldness in showcasing the diverse relationships on the series, with Bo having relationships with both men and women. I find this so refreshing and I love that this series isn’t afraid to show some skin…a lot of it! And thongs! Seriously, Kenzi has more thong panties than Victoria’s Secret! I’m with Dyson, what does Kenzi mean by “business thongs?”

“In Memoriam” follows the season three finale, “Those Who Wander,” in which we saw Dyson and Tamzin (Rachel Skarsten) driving off a cliff while Bo is taken away by a mysterious dark figure known as The Wanderer, who may or may not be her father. The amount of time that everyone’s memories have been gone is unknown and no one is really sure what to do. Enter Clio (guest star Mia Kirshner). She knows something and seems to be very interested in Dyson’s affairs. Kirshner is refreshing as Clio, a Fae known as a Nymph. I love her flirtatious approach that has a pinch of innocence…but we all know she’s far from innocent. I look forward to seeing more of Clio this season.

One of my favorites among the Dark Fae is Vex (Paul Amos). He’s taking on a new role this season that raises big, flamboyant, red flags. Amos does an incredible job of making Vex both likeable and annoying. You want to give him the benefit of the doubt, especially after he and Kenzi bonded when he lost his powers. But then, he pulls audacious stunts that make you want to ring his neck. The Fae-off between Vex and Hale is epic. Vex has the power to make people do whatever he wants using some kind of mind control, but Hale is able to hold his own.

Without spoiling this too much, all I will say is there is an intensely sensual scene that happens between two of our main characters that made my jaw drop. It was that scene that clued me in that something isn’t right. And the fact that Bo was nowhere to be seen also made it blatantly obvious that things are not quite as they appear.

Memorable moments:

The Tango scene with Kenzi, Hale, and Dyson – epic. The chemistry between Kenzi and Dyson is palpable. The heat rising from these two is steamy, but it feels wrong, almost taboo. Hale and Kenzi also have chemistry but it has an awkwardness to it, making their situation believable. Hale likes Kenzi but is too afraid to admit it.

The fight scene with Vex and Dyson, and then Vex and Hale is extremely enjoyable. Vex in that outfit…priceless!

Memorable Lines:

Vex to his designer: “No, no no. I’m not angry, darling; I’m genuinely intrigued. When I say, ‘design me one last costume befitting the new Dark Fae leader,’ why do you hear, ‘dress me like an asexual hobo?’”

Vex to Dyson: “Yeah, well, I am as stubborn as I am well-endowed, and I do love a good Mexican stand-off.”

I’m so happy Lost Girl is back and I’m very much looking forward to this season. “In Memoriam” ends with a revelation of memories and a pair of electric blue eyes popping open. Where is Bo?
