Grimm – “Nobody Knows the Trubel I’ve Seen” Recap. New Grimm on the Block?

Is it just me or does this week’s Grimm feel…different? I mean that in a good way because it almost is different. There’s a new Grimm in town but she doesn’t quite know what she is…yet. Newcomer Jacqueline Toboni, who plays Theresa Rubel (aka Trubel/Trouble), is a fresh face, adding a new vitality to Grimm’s Portland charmingly weird beat. Making her screen debut in “Nobody Knows the Trubel I’ve Seen,” Toboni makes a lasting impression, not only with her beauty but with her ability to hold her own against seasoned actors.

I’m a What?

Is it wise for Nick to show Theresa the trailer so soon?

Being a Grimm for Nick (David Giuntoli) isn’t easy, nor did it come easily despite having an aunt who told him stories about his ancestors and left him a trailer full of goodies that would help him learn what being a Grimm entails. If you had the ability to see things others couldn’t, it might make you think you’re insane and that’s where Theresa comes in. Theresa is a Grimm who doesn’t know what she is. She’s heard the term in the past from Wesens she’s fought against, and killed, but she didn’t know why they called her “Grimm.”

After a series of unfortunate events, Theresa leaves quite a few dead bodies lying around Portland and it’s up to Nick and Hank (Russell Hornsby) to investigate. All the evidence points to someone who is a badass and can defeat some strong Wesen. With Monroe (Silas Wier Mitchell) in tow, the three men find out who the murderer is and why she’s killing people. When Monroe involuntarily transforms into his Blutbaden form in front of Theresa, she panics and goes into kill mode. Fortunately, Hanks subdues her before she can slash Monroe to pieces with her machete.

Watch out Monroe! No woging in front of the new Grimm!

Theresa grew up in foster care so she never had anyone to help her figure out why she’s able to see all these different Wesen. After Nick and Hank arrest her, Nick finds Theresa’s sketch book and decides he needs to help her out. Aw, Nick, you big softie, you — big brother Grimm is helping out newbie baby Grimm. Except this newbie is tough as nails and isn’t the most trusting of people. Can you blame her? She is nearly raped by two Wesen but they didn’t really stand a chance against her – she may have seemed helpless but she definitely showed those two heathens what’s what.

When Nick brings his new protégé home to meet Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch), things get awkward during introductions, especially when Juliette asks if Theresa is staying for dinner.

Theresa: “Nobody calls me Theresa.”

Juliette, giving Theresa the once over: “Uh huh, so what do they call you?”

Theresa: “They call me Trouble.”

Is it wrong I wanted her say, “They call me Mr. Tibbs?” It was just that kind of moment.

I Want My Baby Back, Baby Back…

Adalind is up to her old schemes again…but it’s all in the name of getting her baby back.

Adalind (Claire Coffee) is in no mood for games. She wants her precious baby Diana back and she wants her back now! Like any desperate mother would, Adalind visits everyone she thinks can help—Nick, Monroe and Rosalee (Bree Turner), and of course, the baby’s father, Sean (Sasha Roiz). Adalind initially is vulnerable and scared. She’s a mother whose baby supposedly was taken by the royal family. When Adalind calls Prince Viktor (Alexis Denisof) pleading for him to return Diana to her, he goes along as if he has the child, promising to let Adalind see her after she does something. I didn’t understand why Viktor pretends to have baby Diana until he explains to Adalind, “You have the blood of the Grimm in you, that makes him vulnerable.” He wants her to take Nick’s Grimm powers as he once took away her Hexenbiest powers. Remember, they exchanged blood when he kiss/bit her and she bit him back. With Nick out the way, the royals believe they’ll have the upper hand. But they don’t know about Theresa, nor do they know who really has the baby—Nick’s mom Kelly (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio).

And guess who makes a surprise royal visit? Sean and his late half-brother Eric’s (James Frain) father King Frederick (guest star Dan Kremer) himself pays a visit to his nephew, Prince Viktor. This whole baby business is quite the scandal. The king wants the baby raised by the royal family, but to what end? Is Diana supposed to be the next heir apparent? With Eric dead, the king only has his bastard son Sean to rule. Of course, we know Sean doesn’t want that – he’s part of the resistance, right? I’m still on the fence about Sean’s motives and objectives. He wants to keep Nick close because Nick is a Grimm, plushe’s already said Nick is more valuable than the key. Having a Grimm serve the royal families isn’t uncommon but this brings that pesky key into play. Remember, Nick has a special little key—a miniature stamp that creates a piece of a map. The person who has all seven keys has the complete map—but the question is, a map to what?

Random Thoughts

Anyone need a glass of vino? Maybe a brewsky? Juliette and Nick got you covered!

FBI Agent Stewart (guest star C. Thomas Howell) is still hot on Sean’s trail. Stewart wants Sean dead for what he’s done. I’m not sure how Howell’s role fits into the grand scheme of things but I’m game to watch this play out. Stewart could be the wrench in a future well-laid plan.

Is Theresa’s (oops, sorry, Trouble) presence a sign of things to come? Remember when Monroe, his father Bart (Chris Mulkey), and Nick fought off three Wildesheer Wesen in “Revelation,” Bart said the sign of the Wildesheer could mean something bad was coming next – something that could change the world. Could that person be Theresa or baby Diana? Or both?

Will we see baby Diana and Kelly, her new Grimm caretaker, again before the season finale?

Will Meisner (Damien Plucker) make an appearance again, perhaps to see Adalind?

Have you noticed that Nick and Juliette and even Monroe and Rosalee seem to always have a glass or wine or beer in their hands as of late? If you ever drink, they’ve got you covered.

Overall

“Nobody Knows the Trubel I’ve Seen” is a kick-ass episode! While there are some moments that feel a bit off — the whole shoplifting thing and always finding trouble –the reasons behind these scenes are to set up Theresa’s storyline and back story. I’m anxious to see how Theresa adjusts and what Nick has in store for her Grimm training. He’s still learning as he goes, too.
