“Turn back, turn back, thou pretty bride, within this house thou must not abide. For here do evil things betide.” – Grimm

[warning]WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD![/warning]

As season finales go, Grimm gets it right. “Blonde Ambition” makes you gasp, ooh and ahh, and so much more. It is chock full of shocking, jaw dropping, and emotional moments that will surely enchant the most grizzled Grimm fan. I know I’m thoroughly delighted.

Here Comes the Bride…Ignore Her Drunken Sister

Aww, good speech, Bart...*sniffle*

Aww, good speech, Bart…*sniffle*

What’s a wedding between two Wesen without a few hiccups, right? The first of the awe-inspiring moments comes from Monroe’s (Silas Weir Mitchell) father Bart (guest star Chris Mulkey). His toast is absolutely heartfelt and genuine; I got a little misty eyed myself. But where there is wine, there is bound to be a little over indulgence. Enter Rosalee’s (Bree Turner) older, slightly bitter sister DeEtta (guest star Laura Faye Smith). What DeEtta does to Rosalee’s dress can only be considered shocking, at the very least. And Monroe’s reaction about the dress debacle as DeEtta comes out of her drunken stupor the following morning is surprising. “I’m gonna have to be honest with you…Rosalee and I, we actually hated that dress.” Phew! I’m glad someone else has the nerve to say that because if we’re being honest here, I didn’t like the dress either. Besides, who gets married in the same wedding dress twice? Looking at you, DeEtta. I’m all for traditions and handing down wedding gowns but come on…after it’s been worn twice by the same person, unsuccessfully, I might add, the bad juju is oozing out of that thing.

Thankfully, Rosalee gets an absolutely beautiful new dress, courtesy of her new in-laws to be, and the wedding goes off without a…well, there are a few hitches. The ceremony goes well but something happening outside the wedding interferes, causing a whole lot of commotion.

The Captain, a Hundjäger, and a Troubled Grimm

The dutiful Captain Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) and his most excellent sleuth, Sgt. Wu (Reggie Lee), finally figure out where the conniving Adalind (Claire Coffee) is hiding. Sean figures out what Adalind’s strange witch’s brew does and takes a vial of it with him. Nick (David Giuntoli) needs to drink it to counteract what Adalind did—which is a real doozy! Adalind takes a little purple negligée from Juliette’s (Bitsie Tulloch) dresser, and well, Adalind, who has transformed herself into Juliette via the witchy brew, gets Nick into bed and things just go from bad to worse.

Trubel has no trouble seeing these Wesen woge...if only she could get Nick that potion...

Trubel has no trouble seeing these Wesen woge…if only she could get Nick that potion…

After Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni) tells Sean Nick and Juliette have already left to attend Monroe and Rosalee’s wedding, things escalate rapidly. Sean gives Trubel the potion Nick must drink and tells her to get it to him quickly. But before Sean can make it out the door, that damn FBI Agent Steward (guest star C. Thomas Howell) tries to exact his vengeance. Seeing Sean being shot in the preview clip was one thing; to see it in “Blonde Ambition” is a completely different experience. I gasped as my hand covered my mouth. I’m still in a bit of shock over it all. And let’s not overlook Trubel’s contribution – she really shows Agent Steward what’s what. He had no clue she is a Grimm.

Back to the witch’s brew. If you recall, Prince Viktor (Alexis Denisof) instructed Adalind to take Nick’s Grimm powers if she ever wants to see baby Diana again. So, Adalind sets Juliette up to believe Sean’s obsessive curse with her is back. She tells Juliette the potion needs to be sprayed on a special part of the anatomy; needless to say, Juliette thinks Adalind is talking about Sean. Put two and two together and you have a corrupt Adalind (as Juliette) sleeping with Nick and badda bing – Nick loses his Grimm mojo, although he doesn’t know it—not yet, anyway. Quell shocking music – dun, dun dun!

Observations:

After seeing her negligée on the floor, Juliette thinks Nick has cheated on her, which seems a bit out of character for both of them. Why would Nick leave the bed all messed up knowing Juliette will be home soon? I found this a bit contrived but it is what it is. Tulloch’s performance when Juliette mulls over what she thinks happened is flawless. Her voice changes, her eyes water, and when she realizes it was Adalind in the bed, she looks like she’s going to be sick.

Poor Wu. When he sees the sketch book of Wesen drawings in Trubel’s room, the look on his face…well, the poor man is traumatized all over again. Will Wu become part of the inner circle next season or will the writers continue keeping him in the dark and possibly sending him back to a mental ward?

The happy couple...

The happy couple…and a room full of angry Wesen guests.

How beautiful does Rosalee look? It’s so sweet when Hank (Russell Hornsby) walks her down the aisle and how elated Monroe looks when she walks down the stairs. I got a little choked up when both Monroe and Rosalee says their vows. Speaking of looking nice, Juliette also cleans up very well. And Nick…well, Nick is always hot – tuxedo or not.

A room full of Wesen wedding guests and a Grimm barges in. It’s not Trubel’s fault, she was only trying to save Nick. But those Wesen are hot under the fur, aren’t they? Too bad Nick can’t see them woge…what does that mean for our beloved Grimm? Especially since Juliette says she’s not sure she can do “this” anymore.

Overall

“Blonde Ambition” is such a good season finale. I’m impressed because it leaves us with more than one cliffhanger. Sean lies bleeding in the back of an ambulance; will he survive? Since Sean is a Zauberbiest, the male version of Hexenbiest, will his warlock powers help him heal? And Nick has lost his Grimm powers. I couldn’t tell whether he is upset over this, could you? Maybe he’s tired of the Grimm grind. But I don’t think that’s true. Although, the earlier conversation between him and Trubel, coupled with Juliette’s statement, make it look pretty bleak. You can’t have a show called Grimm without a Grimm, though, and there’s another Grimm in Portland — Trubel. So many variables, so many theories, but we won’t know anything until next season.
