At SXSW 2017, Pixar screened their new animated short Lou, which will be released in theaters prior to Pixar’s new film Cars 3. Following the screening, director Dave Mullins and producer Dana Murray spoke to media about their new film.

Lou isn’t your typical Pixar creation; he’s the anthropomorphized pile of stuff left behind by the kids and collected in the schoolyard’s lost and found box. Lou gets his name from the missing letters on that box, and serves as the playground guardian angel who keeps the peace until a bully starts stealing from his classmates.

While Lou is light on words, the six-minute short packs a whole lot of heart. I was surprised by the range of emotions I experienced while watching it. By the time Lou ended, I already wanted more of the lovable creature. During my conversation with Mullins, I asked if this is the last we will see of Lou.

Despite this being Mullin’s directorial debut, he’s no stranger to Pixar having worked as an animator for 15 years. His work can be seen on films like Inside Out, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, and other Pixar classics.

I apologize for the audio in my video as it isn’t the greatest due to some technical difficulties. That said, I had a great time and highly recommend showing up early for Cars 3 so you can check out Lou.

Lou will premiere in theaters on June 16, 2017 immediately preceding Cars 3.

I provide testosterone to the site. You won’t be reading about how nice a actress looks in a dress or how much of a hunk Matt Bomer is in my reviews. I describe colors using words like brown, not taupe. My twitter name is @staffaroadtrip because I love road trips and have done two different 48-state road trips since 2008. My favorite show is White Collar.
