“Honor is mine; I’ve passed many an hour in the john reading your books.” – Brock Harmon

**** SPOILERS AHEAD ****

Secret missions, shady pasts, aging actors looking for a comeback, and murder are the name of the game in this week’s Castle.

Former Hollywood action movie star Lance Delorca (Morgan Benoit) is found murdered behind a movie theater; it’s up to Beckett (Stana Katic), Esposito (Jon Huertas), and Ryan (Seamus Dever) to figure out why. Of course, Castle (Nathan Fillion) wants in on this because he’s a huge fan of Delorca’s old “Hard Kill” movies. Castle dubs Delorca the “Spanish Jason Bourne” because of Delorca’s ties to Spain’s “CNI” (kind of like the CIA). But when Beckett questions one of the last people to talk to Delorca, an old acquaintance Enrique Gomez (Gonzalo Escudero), he tells Beckett Delorca wanted to hire him as a bodyguard. It seems Lance fudged his resume when he said he was a CNI operative.

Beckett and Castle visit the set of the next "Indestructible" movie to talk with star Brock Harmon about Lance Delorca's murder.

Delorca was in New York working on the next installment of the “Indestructibles”  franchise with his old buddy, fellow actor Brock Harmon (guest star Ted McGinley). It seems Delorca wrapped shooting over a week prior to his death so Harmon is shocked to learn Delorca was still in town.

As the investigation continues, Beckett and team learn Delorca was staying at a shady hotel. Searching his room, they find gadgets and items one would use to create a listening device. It turns out Delorca was taking on “one last mission,” but what the mission is, no one really knows. It involved another acting buddy, Henry Allen Boothe (Adoni Maropis), a club owner with his hands in the drug business.

All's fair in love and action movies...right?

Henry was using Harmon’s son Trey’s (Nick Jandl) connections as a club promoter to get his drugs into other night clubs. When Delorca learned about this, he wanted to help Trey out. After all, the entire Harmon family – Brock, his wife Naomi (guest star Krista Allen), and Trey helped Delorca when he needed a bone marrow transplant. Delorca’s last mission was to help Trey get out of the drug business – he wanted to be his son’s hero. Yes, Delorca is actually Trey’s biological father. Naomi is a former actress who was also in the “Hard Kill” movies. She apparently had a fling with Delorca before marrying Harmon. What better motive for murder than a secret like that to ruin your 30 year marriage?!

BFF Moment

I really enjoy it when Beckett and Lanie (Tamala Jones) have girl time. These two are best friends but usually, we only see Castle, Esposito, and Ryan enjoying bro time. Speaking of bro time, does anyone else miss the weekly poker games with all the famous writers?

Interesting Moments

I thought “ear recognition” was a bit of a stretch until I looked it up online. Turns out, it’s a real thing. Color me surprised.

Castle dressing up like a Rambo extra cracked me up!

Castle’s insensitivity to Beckett packing up her old apartment seems a bit like a gateway for something that may possibly come to pass. Castle tells Beckett he’s not going to miss her old apartment because of the creaky floors. He never said anything before because, at the time, it wasn’t as important as their budding relationship. Now that she knows, she’s hiding her hurt feelings from him, choosing to tell Lanie instead. I agree with Lanie; Castle doesn’t see the apartment the way Beckett does. But I think if Beckett continues to keep Castle in the dark when he hurts her feelings, it could come back to bite her.

Is it me or has the Castle ink pen opening been coinciding with the theme of the episodes? They changed it up for the honeymoon episode “Once Upon a Time in the West.”

Overall

“Last Action Hero” is a fun episode but I am ready for the writers to give us something more on Castle’s disappearance from the season premiere, and more clues about the mysterious Hollander’s Woods.”

Judy Manning

Dream chaser extraordinaire! Judy tends to be a tad sarcastic and kind of goofy! She is an avid admirer of all things supernatural, paranormal, celestial and mystical. She loves to read, write, and watches way too much TV. She enjoys many genres of film and music (and let's be honest, most music from the 80s). She also has a wicked sweet tooth. Cupcakes beware.

Liked your review. Agree with your thoughts on trouble if Kate doesn’t be more open with Castle. Loved Kate and Lanie and wish there was more of those scenes with the girls!

    1. Thank you so much for reading and commenting. Yes, we need more ‘girl time’ with Beckett and Lanie. wouldn’t it be great to see an episode where these two ladies got into some kind of trouble?

I Agee with you about trouble ahead if Kate doesn’t tell Castle when he hurts her feelings. Castle is a goofball, but thought this episode had too much of it. Over-the-top for me. Stana Katic saved the episode for me with her outstanding looks and ability convey how much her apartment really meant to her.

    1. Hi, thanks for reading and commenting. Yes, the antics were a bit much. The whole ‘sneak into the office, hide behind a desk’ routine was a tad over the cliche top. It was a fun episode and seeing Castle looking like a Rambo extra was hilarious, but I’d love to see more with Beckett and Lanie. Seems the boys have all the fun. Thanks again!
