The Affair – “110” Retrospective. A Perfect Setup.

Kudos to Treem for penning such an in-depth look at what happens when a spouse strays. Throw in a good murder mystery and you have an Emmy worthy show, in my opinion. The acting has been superb all season long; the cinematography and direction have been outstanding; and the dialogue so intense and captivating, it has been difficult to tear my eyes from the TV screen for more than a minute. The same can be said for The Affair’s season finale. All we can do now is wait for next year, something that won’t be easy for me. How about you?

American Horror Story: Freak Show – “Orphans” Retrospective. Best of the Best

I always find the strength of an episode rests in how long it leaves an impression. It’s been more than 24 hours since I saw “Orphans,” and I can still feel the ache in my chest from how much it caught me off guard with its brilliant writing and amazing performances; not to mention some of the most heartbreaking, poignant, and memorable moments you’ll see in television this year.

Homeland – “Krieg Nicht Lieb” Retrospective. Revenge.

As penultimate episodes go, “Krieg Nicht Lieb” is a tad disappointing. While it does have some exciting, suspenseful moments, it’s short—like last week’s episode—to the tune of lasting only 45 minutes. Also, it’s a filler episode at best, even with its compelling moments. “Krieg Nicht Lieb” leaves us with too many questions unanswered, most importantly how will the Haqqani story line end?

The Affair – “109” Retrospective. Trouble in Paradise.

“109” is one of the best penultimate episodes I’ve seen in quite a while. The acting is exceptional, the writing is outstanding, and the directing spot on, to say nothing of how dazzling the cinematography is. The word “compelling” doesn’t even begin to describe this episode. I couldn’t tear my eyes from the screen for one single, solitary moment.

Grimm – “Chupacabra” Recap. Urban Legends vs. Truth.

When a local Portland doctor, Diego Hoyos (Max Arciniega) returns from a long trip in the Dominican Republic, strange things begin to happen to him that he can’t explain. When one of his neighbors is found exsanguinated, a witness seems to believe it’s the work of “El Chupacabra.” An urban legend, the “Chupacabra” is believed to look like a goat that sucks the blood of its victims. As fall finales go, “Chupacabra” is fantastic! It is suspenseful, dramatic, and filled with surprises that will surely tide you over until Grimm returns in January 2015.

Homeland – “13 Hours in Islamabad” Retrospective. The Body Count.

From the moment “13 Hours in Islamabad” begins, you know you’re in for one hell of a ride. To say this episode is tension-filled is putting it mildly. The first half hour is pulse pounding, with non-stop action, while the remaining 15 minutes (yes, that’s right; the episode is only 45 minutes long) deal with the emotional reactions to what happened.
